January	Moody′s Investors Services changes the Baa2 credit rating outlook of the Company from stable to positive. The Company announces the US$585 million acquisition of Repsol-YPF′s interests in five blocks in Indonesia. The Company was voted "The Best Managed Company in China 2001" by an Asiamoney poll.
March	The Company was voted "The Best Managed Company in China 2001" by a FinanceAsia poll. The Company successfully issued US$500 million of 10-year global notes. The development of East China Sea′s Xihu Trough Project began.
April	The Company completed the acquisition of Repsol YPF′s main assets in Indonesia.
May	Qinhuangdao 32-6 oilfield Platform C& D began production ahead of schedule.
July	Wenchang 13-1/13-2 oilfield came on stream
August	The Board appointed Mr. Shouwei Zhou to be the President of the Company, replacing Mr. Chengyu Fu who moved to China Oilfield Services Limited Qinhuangdao 32-6 oilfield Platform E & F began production ahead of schedule The Company received an offer to acquire an interest in Australia′s North West Shelf Gas Project
September	The Company entered into a heads of agreement to acquire a participating interest in the Tangguh Project of Indonesia

November	Dr. Kenneth S. Courtis and Dr. Erwin Schurtenberger joined the Company′s Board of Directors as independent non-executive directors, replacing Mr. Will Honeybourne and Mr. Tso Kai Sum.
December	Moody′s Investors Service upgraded the Company′s Baa2 positive credit rating to Baa1 positive. The Company was voted the "Best in Corporate Governance - China 2002" by an Asset poll and also won three other awards.


February	The Company completed the acquisition of equity interest in the Tangguh LNG project.
March	The Company signed an agreement for the acquisition of a partial interest of the Kashagan Oilfield in North Caspian Sea. The acquisition was however withdrawn on May 12 as existing owners exercised their pre-emption rights.
May	The Company issued 10 year and 30 year global bonds totaling US$500 million and reached an agreement for the acquisition of the Northwest Shelf Gas Project in Australia.
June	The Company′s partner ConocoPhillips made two exploration discoveries in Bohai Bay: Penglai 19-9-1 and Penglai 13-1-1.
August	CNOOC reached an agreement with Sinopec, Shell and Unocal to explore and develop the Xihu Trough.
September	Appointed Mr Evert Henkes, the former CEO of Shell′s global chemical business, as the Company′s independent non-executive director. Mr Chak Kwong So resigned from the Board.
September	Phase 1 of the Company′s largest independent gas field Dongfang 1-1 commenced production.
October	Panyu 4-2 and Panyu 5-1 oilfields commenced production. Mr Chengyu Fu was appointed as the Company′s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Moody′s elevated the Company′s credit rating to A2. CNOOC signed an agreement on the Gorgon LNG project. The Company is studying the viability of investing in the project. The Company announced its long-term strategy.
December	The Company received The Best Corporate Governance Company in China for two consecutive years in "The Asset" poll. Euromoney named CNOOC Ltd the "Best Oil & Gas Company in Asia", and the "Best Managed Company in China"


January	The Company announced its stock split proposal, and subdivided each of its shares into five new shares in March.
February	Standard and Poor′s upgraded the Company′s credit rating to BBB+ (Outlook Positive).
March	CNOOC signed an agreement with the Zhejiang Provincial Government to jointly develop China′s third LNG terminal in Zhejiang.
April	The Company was ranked the top of the "Best Managed Company in China" in a Finance Asia poll.
May	The Company announced the acquisition of an additional interest in the Indonesian Tangguh Project. The Board of Directors approved the share repurchase. During the year, the Company repurchased and cancelled about 18.45 million ordinary shares from the market.
June	The Company announced Qikou 18-2 commenced production successfully.
July	The Company announced Caofeidian 11-1/11-2 came on stream successfully.
August	CNOOC signed the second deepwater contract with Husky Oil China Limited.
October	Bozhong 25-1/25-1S completed construction and commenced operation.
November	The Company announced Bonan and Huizhou 19 - 3/2 projects commenced production.
December	Wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company made an offering of US$1 billion zero coupon convertible bonds with a success. Asiamoney named the Company the "Best Managed Company in China". The Company completed its acquisition of an equity interest in the North West Shelf Gas Project in Australia. The Company announced that Mr. Yang Hua was appointed as Chief Financial Officer.


13 January	CNOOC signed an agreement with the Shanghai Municipal Government to construct a LNG terminal in Shanghai.
4 February	CNOOC signed a petroleum contract with Kerr-McGee for the deepwater block 43/11 in the Eastern South China Sea.
March	Named the “Best Managed Company in China” by The Assets.
April	Ranked the top of the “Best Managed Companies in China” in a FinanceAsia poll.
12 April	Announced the acquisition of a 16.69% stake in the Canada-based MEG Energy Corporation for C$150 million.
21 April	Announced the production of Luda 10-1 in Bohai Bay, which outperformed the Company’s expectation with a daily output of over 7,000 barrels in well A11.
23 June	Made an offer for Unocal for a cash consideration of US$18.5 billion, but the offer was finally withdrawn on 2 August.
September	Announced the commencement of production of Bozhong 25-1/25-1S (C/F Platforms) and Nanbao 35-2 oilfields.
12 October	Announced the independent discovery of Luda 27-1 in Bohai Bay.
15 November	Standard & Poor’s upgraded the Company’s credit rating from “BBB+” to “A-” (Outlook Stable).
21 November	Announced the commencement of production of Luda 5-2.
29 November	Announced the independent discovery of Jinxian 1-1 in the Northeastern part of Bohai.
6 December	CNOOC signed a petroleum contract with Devon Energy Corporation for the deepwater block 42/05 in the Eastern South China Sea.
28 December	Chairman Mr. Fu Chengyu was honoured CCTV 2005 Chinese Business Figures of the Year.
